A motley group of kids on Youtube calling themselves “Envelope Generator”, with what looks to be about six or seven synths, including some VERY collectible analog/VA ones (I spotted : A Juno-60, an ARPAXXE, a MicroKORG). In any case, they put together this great little medley of popular 80’s synth tracks with all their kit – and everyone jumps around to play all the parts – seems the only thing sequenced here is the drumbeat.  Tracks include Ray Parker Jr’s “Ghostbusters”, Harold Faltermeyer’s “Axel F”, A-Ha’s “Take On Me”, Nena’s “99 Luftballons”, Toto’s “Africa” (complete with nice vocoder addition), Europe’s “The Final Countdown”, Abba’s “Gimme Gimme Gimme” (not exactly 80’s ;)   ) , Yazoo’s “Don’t Go”, Van Halen’s “Jump”, Falco’s “Rock Me Amadeus”, and a really cool vocoder rendition of Styx’s “Mr Roboto”, and finally A-Ha’s “The Sun Always Shines on TV”.  There’s a little surprise at the end of the video, which we think is REALLY worth waiting for. You won’t be disappointed.

“Envelope Generator” are : Thomas Holden, Sam Binstead, and James Cronin.  Any comments comparing them to a synthesizer band version of “Hanson” will be laughed at and embraced heartily.
